  • Institute of Systematics and Evolution of Animals of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Babiogórski National Park published proceedings of the conference "Conservation Ecology and Biology of Holarctic Bats and Small Terrestrial Mammals – in Theory and Practice" (organized by the Chiropterological Information Center of the Institute of Systematics and Evolution of Animals of the Polish Academy of Sciences with cooperation of the Babiogórski National Park and Committee on Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences). During the meeting the Committee assumed a statement concerning the appeal to proclaim the 2012 year as the "Year of Homeland Nature Protection" and a statement concerning initiative about meeting of the Committee with the interested organizations to discuss a layout of the Congress of Protection of the Homeland Nature.

  • 23th February Receiving of the joined Divisions’ (Two and Five) of the Polish Academy of Sciences support for the initiative of proclaiming the 2012 year as the "Year of Homeland Nature Protection".
March
  • The first volume (1/2010) of the Bulletin of the Committee on Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences (dealing with problems of Natura 2000 network in Poland) was issued.

May

  • 16th May – The President of the Committee, prof. dr hab. Zbigniew Mirek’s participation in Plenary Meeting of the Division Two (Biological and Agricultural Sciences) of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Warsaw), dealing with, among others, restructuration of the committees of the Division in 2011–2014 term. Taking a position on the matter, with raising the objection against the idea of liquidation of the Committees: on Nature Conservation and of Botany of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

  • 23th–27th May International 6th Planta Europa Conference "Actions for Wild Plants" organized by the Committee on Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences (leading organizer), W. Szafer Institute of Botany of the Polish Academy of Sciences and "Planta Europa" organization (venue: W. Szafer Institute of Botany of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Kraków).

    During the conference, the member of the Committee, prof. dr hab. Romuald Olaczek, as the first person from Poland, was honoured by receiving "Silver Leaf" of Planta Europa – the only award of this organization, dealing with protection of the nature of our continent. Professor R. Olaczek received the award for the whole of work within the field of nature protection and for his book "Treasures of Polish nature and landscape".

    During the conference it was also resolved (prepared by the Committee together with the other organizers) the "Cracow Declaration" dealing with main problems in protection of diversity of our continent’s vegetation.
July
  • 27th July – Starting the procedure of election of members of the Committee on Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2011–2014 term), according to the schedule and rules given by the Polish Academy of Sciences.
October
  • 12th October – The member of the Committee prof. PAN, dr Krzysztof Jakubowski (Museum of the Earth of the Polish Academy of Sciences) died. The President of the Committee expressed his regrets to the Director of the Museum on behalf of the Committee.

  • 4th January – Addressing an appeal to the General Directorate for Environmental Protection and to the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Rzeszów concerning the extending of the protected area for Yellow Azalea (Rhododendron luteum Sweet) on the site in Kołacznia <PDF (in Polish)>

     

  • The second volume (2/2011) of the Bulletin of the Committee on Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences (dealing with problems of GMO) was issued.
February
  • 8th February Participation of the Members of the Committee: prof. dr hab. Zbigniew Mirek (President) and prof. dr hab. Ludwik Tomiałojć (Presiding Board Member) in the discussion "Genetically modified organisms. Necessity or choice? Chance or threat?" organized within the Forum of Public Debate in the President’s Palace. Prof. dr hab. Zbigniew Mirek was invited by the Chancellery of the President of Poland to present a short speech concerning the statements of the Committee on Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences connected with problems of GMO. An important supplement of the above mentioned statement was a special, monographic volume of the Bulletin of the Committee on Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences (vol. 2/2011), concerning GMO – it was handed to the participants of the meeting.

  • 15th February  -   Addressing an appeal to the Ministers: of the Environment and of Culture and National Heritage (with copy for the President of the Polish National Committee for UNESCO [Polski Komitet ds. UNESCO]) concerning putting the Dolina Kościeliska valley in the Tatra Mts on the World Heritage List within the Polish-Slovak entry “The West Carpathian Mesozoic Valleys”.
  • Addressing an appeal to the Minister of the Environment concerning privatization of the Mt. Kasprowy Wierch cable car line.

  • Addressing an appeal to the Minister of the Environment, Presidents of: State Council for Nature Conservation [Państwowa Rada Ochrony Przyrody] and State Council of Environment Conservation [Państwowa Rada Ochrony Środowiska], directors of national parks and presidents of scientific councils of national parks concerning strict and partial protection in the context of preparation of protection plans for national parks.

  1. 24–25 October – the conference "Nature conservation in Poland facing present civilizational challenges" co-organized by: the Institute of Nature Conservation, Polish Academy of Sciences, the Committee on Nature Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the State Council for Environmental Protection – venue: the Institute of Nature Conservation, Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków. The conference was under the Patronage of the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Professor Michał Kleiber. The conference was a culmination of celebrations of the Year of the Homeland’s Nature Protection. The mentioned Year was under the Honour Patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland, Bronisław Komorowski.

  • 1 December – termination of the current term of the Committee on Nature Conservation of PAS; it is at the same time the termination of functioning of the Committee in its hitherto existing form. A result of change in the committees’ network of the Division Two: Biological and Agricultural Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, since 2016 its function has been taken over by the Committee of Environmental and Evolution Biology.
