IIn my work I am trying to bring together various natural sciences disciplines. My field of interest concerns on the interdisciplinary science of chemical ecology, linking together biology, biochemistry and ecology. I'm interested in plant defense mechanisms mediated through defense metabolites and the role they play in complex interactions between the plant, pathogens and environment.
Currently I work with cyclotides, peptides characterized by a circular peptide backbone and a cystine knot motif. This signature motif gives extreme stability that can harness a wide spectrum of biological activities, with implications in plant defense and with applications in medicine and biotechnology. In my work, I am aiming to gain a deeper insight into cyclotides role in defense mechanisms.
My main research tools are different types of chromatography methods, mass spectrometry, plant cell cultures, immunohistochemistry and transcriptomics.
